A Look Ahead Into September: Celebrating a Legacy of Literacy

Through her generosity and belief that every child deserves access to books, Dolly Parton has given millions of children the gift of literacy, imagination, and opportunity. AVPH is proud to honor Dolly Parton's legacy through her Imagination Library.

Honoring Dolly Parton's Legacy Through the Gift of Reading

The recent passing of Dolly Parton has given many individuals a chance to reflect on the lasting impact she made on the world. While she was known for her music, her kindness and generosity may be her greatest legacy. Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she helped millions of children discover the joy of reading by providing free books to families and encouraging a lifelong love of learning.

Here in the Antelope Valley, we are proud to continue that mission.

Why This Program Matters

The Antelope Valley has historically been an underserved community. For many families, access to early childhood literacy resources is limited, and programs like Dolly Parton's Imagination Library can make a meaningful difference.

The reality is that not every family can afford to purchase books on a regular basis. For some families, books are a luxury when there are other costs to focus on, such as housing, food, transportation, and other necessities.

That's what makes the Imagination Library so powerful. Every month, a child receives a high-quality, age-appropriate book delivered directly to their home at no cost to the family. No fees, no barriers, just books in the hands of children in the Antelope Valley.

"Bringing the Imagination Library to the Antelope Valley isn't just about delivering books. It's about sending a message to the children that they matter, that their futures matter, and that their community believes in them."

— Michelle Fluke, Executive Director of AV Partners for Health (AVPH)

Dolly's Vision and Legacy

Dolly Parton's vision was simple: every child deserves access to books and the opportunity to develop a love of reading, regardless of their family's circumstances.

Today, Dolly's legacy lives on through every child who receives a new book, every family that shares a bedtime story, and every young reader who discovers the joy of literacy. In the Antelope Valley, the launch of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library ensures that her commitment to expanding opportunity through reading will continue to impact local children and families for years to come.

Join the Community Launch Celebration

Before Dolly Parton's passing, plans were underway with community partners to celebrate the launch and expansion of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

What was intended to be a celebration of bringing this incredible program to local families in the Antelope Valley has now taken on an even deeper meaning. The event will become a tribute to Dolly Parton, her vision, and the millions of children she has impacted through the gift of literacy.

Families will have the opportunity to enjoy a special story time reading featuring Coat of Many Colors, one of Dolly's most beloved books, which reflects the values of love, resilience, and family that she shared throughout her life and work. Registration and additional program information will also be available for parents, families, and caregivers interested in enrolling their children in the program.

The community is invited to attend the official launch celebration!
