Title: Mentoring Coordinator (Elevate Youth)

Position Reports To: PM Youth Services Dept
Hours: Full-time, occasional evening and weekend work required
Starting Wage: $21/hour

Job Summary:  

The Elevate Youth program at AVPH is focused on providing youth and young adults with meaningful  mentorship opportunities, leadership development and advocacy for policy change. In the role of Mentoring  Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting the Elevate Youth team in recruiting and overseeing mentor  volunteers. These volunteer mentors would assist staff in facilitating group mentoring sessions in schools and  on site. The Mentoring Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring volunteer data is tracked for reporting  purposes (background checks, schedules, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Have thorough knowledge of program goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Organize and implement program activities (scope of work). 
  • Maintain scheduling for school mentoring groups and volunteer mentors.  
  • Collect volunteer information and data (volunteer applications, schedules and tasks).
  • Train new mentor volunteers utilizing department approved curriculum. 
  • Be compliant with all training requirements. 
  • Responsible for regular communications with all project staff. 
  • Assist in managing volunteer mentors. 
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating monthly meetings with volunteers. 
  • Ability to function effectively under pressure to meet schedules and deadlines. 
  • Assist with Outreach in the community. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education, Experience & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, from an accredited university, may be substituted with at least 2 years’  experience in administration or coordinating and supporting programs 
  • Bilingual, preferred but not required.  
  • At least two years of work experience in a closely related position. 
  • Maintain a valid California driver’s license. 
  • Must have automobile and maintain automobile insurance. 
  • Meet basic health and background check requirements and physical job standards.
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 preferred but not required. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and organizational relationships.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and coordinating 
  • Ability to work independently and with little to no supervision. 
  • Ability to plan and effectively manage complex, long-term projects. 
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to compose routine correspondence and reports. 
  • Ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations. 
  • Conforms with and supports organization’s quality assurance and improvement guidelines.
  • Supports and adheres to the values and mission statement established by the AVPH Board of Directors.
  • Experience of volunteer management and project planning methods  
  • Experience working with culturally diverse communities and volunteers who can be culturally sensitive  and appropriate. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills. 
  • Must demonstrate excellent skills in Microsoft Office Software. 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy. 

Working Conditions

  • Work in flexible settings, hybrid model at the discretion of Program Manager. 
  • Working with overburdened, often high-risk families of low economic and varied cultural backgrounds,  living in high-risk areas. 
  • Able to maintain HIPAA requirements with confidential information, safely and discreetly, as required,  when working in various settings  
  • This position may require lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs., stooping, bending, squatting, sitting on the floor,  and/or walking.
